Specialist care for children and young people
Paediatric and adolescent gynaecology is a specialist area within gynaecology that focuses on the diagnosis, support and treatment of girls and young women from birth through to their late teens.
At Manchester Women’s Health, we understand that this age group often faces sensitive or complex gynaecological concerns. Some may require medical treatment, while others simply need reassurance from a consultant who has experience in this area and knows how to communicate with younger patients and their families.
Dr Sujata Gupta is a recognised expert in this field. She has been a member of the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (BritSPAG) since 2012, and continues to work as part of the paediatric and adolescent gynaecology team at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester.

Our Approach to Care
We understand that seeing a gynaecologist at a young age can be daunting, both for the patient and their parent or guardian. That’s why we take a thoughtful, age-appropriate approach that ensures the child or young person feels safe, listened to and in control.
We prioritise:
- Clear, kind communication
- Respect for privacy and comfort
- Involving the patient in decisions where appropriate
- Offering reassurance and education where no treatment is needed
- Providing onward referrals if more specialist input is required
Where an examination is needed, it is always explained fully beforehand and conducted with care. In many cases, examination is not necessary at the first visit.
Expertise You Can Trust
Dr Sujata Gupta brings years of experience in this specialist field and remains actively involved in NHS care through her work at St Mary’s Hospital. Her dual role in both private and NHS settings ensures continuity of care and access to wider services if required.
Her gentle, knowledgeable manner helps put young patients and their families at ease, and she works closely with parents or guardians throughout the process.
Appointments and Referrals
We welcome referrals from GPs, paediatricians, or other healthcare professionals, and we also accept direct bookings from parents or carers seeking advice for their child or teenager.
If you are unsure whether a referral is appropriate, our team is happy to advise. We are experienced in working with young patients and will always take the time to ensure that each consultation is appropriate for the patient’s age and stage of development.
