Why investigations matter

When something doesn’t feel right, the first step is understanding what’s going on. Whether you’re dealing with pain, bleeding, fertility concerns or hormonal changes, the right investigations can give you answers and guide your treatment plan.

At Manchester Women’s Health, we offer private access to scans and tests in a calm, professional setting — with fast results and consultant-led care throughout.

What we offer

We provide a full range of diagnostic services, including:

Pelvic Ultrasound Scan

Used to assess the womb, ovaries and surrounding areas

  • Checks for fibroids, cysts or changes in the lining of the womb
  • May be done transvaginally or through the abdomen, depending on what’s needed

Transvaginal Ultrasound

A closer internal scan to give detailed images of the womb and ovaries

  • Often used when investigating pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding or early pregnancy

Blood Tests

Tailored to your symptoms, may include:

  • Hormone levels (e.g. oestrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH, testosterone)
  • Thyroid function
  • Full blood count to check for anaemia
  • Infection screening
  • CA-125 for ovarian health when appropriate

Hysteroscopy

A simple procedure using a small camera to look inside the womb

  • Helps investigate heavy periods, abnormal bleeding or polyps
  • Can be done as an outpatient procedure with minimal discomfort

Cervical Smear and HPV Testing

If not already covered in your routine NHS screening, we offer private tests for reassurance or earlier follow-up

Swabs and Infection Screening

To check for causes of pain, discharge or bleeding

  • Includes screening for bacterial infections and STIs if needed

When might you need a scan or test?

You may benefit from further investigation if you’re experiencing:

  • Heavy or irregular periods
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Bleeding after sex or between periods
  • Fertility concerns
  • Menopausal symptoms at an early age
  • A history of fibroids, cysts or endometriosis

Early diagnosis gives you more control and a wider range of treatment options.

What to expect

We’ll always explain what a test involves and why it’s being recommended. There’s time to ask questions and no pressure to go ahead unless you’re comfortable.

You’ll usually receive results quickly, and we’ll talk through what they mean and what the next steps should be.
